You Are the Moon
remember you not only move mountains
you turn the tides, dear one~ renee meera
This past Thursday we witnessed a full moon. She was dubbed “super” and was heralded to be capable of eradicating old patterns, or as known in yoga as samskaras, should we ask her. That night, I had the honor of being in community with a circle of similarly powerful women. We came together to illuminate our ways with curiosity. To wonder about possibilities for ourselves - could we shift in one way or another, bring something in or let something go.
This full moon ritual was anchored by an energy practice known as holotropic breathwork or clarity breathwork. It’s a way of harnessing our own breath/lifeforce energy/chi/prana to liberate stagnant energy, unlock embodied wounds, and bring clarity to our truest essence and desires. It’s a way to restore us to wholeness in a place of peace. It helps us ‘let go of that which does not serve’, as the commonly quipped adage goes. When we cleanse ourselves physically, emotionally, or spiritually then new (and hopefully intended) influences can enter those voids. In this experience, we feel our own insanely powerful electromagnetic energies pulsating in our bodies. It’s pure. It’s powerful. It’s kind of crazy to fathom, to be honest. We feel the powerhouse of our divine energy, literally in our fingertips. It’s the energy that moves us to live our lives and fulfill our life’s purpose, our dharma. So, the quote above was replayed in my mind as I sat to write this.
While we are often claimed to be able to move the mountains in our lives through our innate powers, I think of this in terms of Shiva or yang energy. These mountains are made and manipulated in our external worlds to create our reality. Acts like completing a degree, earning a coveted position at work, sending a child off to university. It’s a place of co-creation. However, the aspect to us that we often overlook, and that are often devalued or painful to visit, is the internal world of our emotions and heart. These are, in many wisdom traditions, referred to in terms of our watery nature. This is our moon side, our Shakti or yin aspect. It’s the tenderest part of us that keeps us soft. It invites in love and can hold the capacity for deep compassion and empathy for ourselves and others. Expressions of dancing in our kitchens, writing poetry, singing as a song is remembered, cooking with love, painting a flower, sitting with our daydreams. And we need this. We need so much more of this.
When we tend to our own moon natures, we counteract and balance out the hard driving, stress inducing lifestyles we have become accustomed to living. When we allow ourselves to soften, be creative, and move from the natural flow of our being-ness, then we can show up in all areas of our life as our best and whole selves. This is where we connect to our blissful state of being, our flow state, our divinity within. This is where we find peace in the non-duality of all that we are. Our body and mind and heart become one.
Most importantly to remember, this place is eternal within you. Just reminisce of the moon at any phase and remember this energy is always there for you to harness.
In light & with love, Renee
